Bottles on the blog!

Cactype: A typeface for pricks!

House Industries is proud to introduce CacType, a prickly original typeface that you're certain to get stuck on! Atlanta-based designer Morgan Pirkle has created this organic mouthwatering typeface consisting of 28 original illustrated letters and characters that will certainly give any design the sharpness and cutting edge it needs. CacType debuts early 2016! Order now so you can create the sharpest designs found in any creative oasis.

I really loved the end result of this project! Each letter has its own personality, but together they fit as a family. The little creatures I used to embellish the letters really changed the game and let the alphabet take on a whole new tone. The colors were a fun exploration also! Trying to find just enough colors to add variety without overdoing it was a hard balance to find. I think looking back that I would go back and adjust some colors so that they're a little brighter so that at small sizes they can still show detail for the viewer.

For my ad, I chose to continue with flat vector illustrations to let the letters shine. I chose not to spell out "CacType" in the cactype alphabet because I thought it would overwhelm the page.

Overall, it was definitely time well spent! This has been my favorite project (so far) this semester.

My workspace

Welcome to my desk?

It's usually a cluttered, ironic mess of organizational materials (agendas, post-its, rulers, oh my!) but it's looking pretty good this week.

The necessities: six different rulers, tracing paper, books, pineapples, and coffee.

The real necessity: the computer! It's brand new (like yesterday, brand new) and I'm really excited about it. Borrowing the boyfriend's super intense red backlit keyboard until mine comes in.

The matriarch, YaYa, hangs out with me along with a souvenir from San Antonio, an Anthropologie candle I got on sale because the label is printed backwards (who doesn't love a good anomaly?) and a Birchbox designed by the Rifle Paper Company.

This is my elephant from Cambodia (souvenir brought back by a family friend)- it's super gaudy and weird but I love it. It hangs from the corner of a very large Hungarian flag in my room.

Also a little gaudy but loved nonetheless. Perched on a cork board set up very similar to my timeline, with photos of friends and family, kind notes, and keepsakes from coffeeshops and traveling.

An ad from Mohawk, a camera from the 70's, and a metallic cat because why not?
