Cactype: A typeface for pricks!
House Industries is proud to introduce CacType, a prickly original typeface that you're certain to get stuck on! Atlanta-based designer Morgan Pirkle has created this organic mouthwatering typeface consisting of 28 original illustrated letters and characters that will certainly give any design the sharpness and cutting edge it needs. I really loved the end result of this project! Each letter has its own personality, but together they fit as a family. The little creatures I used to embellish the letters really changed the game and let the alphabet take on a whole new tone. The colors were a fun exploration also! Trying to find just enough colors to add variety without overdoing it was a hard balance to find. I think looking back that I would go back and adjust some colors so that they're a little brighter so that at small sizes they can still show detail for the viewer.
For my ad, I chose to continue with flat vector illustrations to let the letters shine. I chose not to spell out "CacType" in the cactype alphabet because I thought it would overwhelm the page.
Overall, it was definitely time well spent! This has been my favorite project (so far) this semester.
