Today's Work-in-Progress

First off, I am so happy to say I have an internship! Aside from pending paperwork finalization, I am officially employed in my field of study!

Second off, and on a much, much more important note: my sister's baby is due in less than a week! Miss Harper Sylvia Knapp is expected to join us on Monday and I am thrilled. In my anticipation I've started working on a few potential birth announcements. I've only really explored a single theme at this point, but I've got a few more to poke around with.

On the 4th draft I even included their puppy, Monty Boy. The figures I used are my guesses for my family's pool going on, so hopefully putting them down in writing will send some message to the universe.

How much do babies normally weigh? How long are they?

Oh I know the answers are just around a corner (or google tab) but I'd like to remain unaware so that I'm more convinced that my numbers are spot on!

Today's happenings: pineapples.

Today I was feeling extra inspired and wanted to play around with some illustrations and making cards. I started with a similar template of a pineapple, and branched out from there. The paper I used is an off-white with specks of color throughout.

I'm a screenshot maniac. 

I love seeing so much creativity in my instagram feed. I love pineapples and Amy Poehler, illustrations and brush lettering, Sophia Amoruso and funny quotes. 

And books. 

 And Rosé, of course. (And Hogwash! If Hagrid was a rosé drinker- and of course, who am I to say he isn't- I think he'd be partial to this one)

Spring 2015 Summary

Just like Thanksgiving Dinner.

Every year without fail, as everyone around the table struggles to scoop up one more spoonful of her famous banana pudding, my grandmother always says "All that work, and in an hour it's all over." She's probably justified in saying this, after the hours of slaving over giblet gravy and dressing, several forms of poultry and her impeccable pudding.

It's kind of the way I felt about turning in my portfolio.

I slaved away in my kitchen (desk), stirring up these wonderful meals (designs), wiping the steam off my glasses every time I opened the oven (every time I nicked myself with an x-acto blade). I tidied everything up, wiped off the smudges, and sent a piece of my soul off to be devoured... All that work, and in an hour it's all over. I dropped it off while dodging the bombarding thoughts of doubt- did I oversalt it? Are the biscuits too hard? Will they notice there's no Watergate salad?- and said goodbye.

After seven days of refreshing my browser, I finally received the news I was hoping for- I got in! They loved the pudding! I am so proud to say that I am now officially part of the Bachelor of Fine Arts program for Graphic Design! Exclamations just because!!!

After all is said and done, despite the stress at all times of the day (literally- stress nightmares of rubber cement & mounting that went on for days) I would without a doubt do it all again. I am beyond thrilled to begin this new journey with the Class of 2017.




But it would be better with pudding.

Busy week!

Between studying for finals, prepping for portfolio, and all the usual chaos, it has been an incredibly hectic week! I'm waist deep in black presentation boards, I've gone through over a dozen razor blades, and scraps of Red River paper litter my room... for days I  have felt like a cartoon, my legs going round and round in circles, but my body never actually moving.


But at last, I feel I'm getting somewhere.

This morning I visited a building on Georgia Tech's campus close to my house to photograph my collateral & stationery.

I like the photos, but they're not printing out quite like I would hope; I may borrow a camera from the school and go back to retake them before portfolio. 

I really love the logo bag I made for collateral, and I think I've decided to put all the extra "stationery" pieces I made early on in the collateral folder, just for simplicity's sake.

Simple, clean cocktail menu for the Studio Bar & Cocktail Lounge

Basically the guest flips the menu to hungry/full depending on whether they'd like breakfast delivered or not. If they decide to have it delivered, there are many options as far as coffee (latte? Cappucino? espresso?), tea, fresh juice, eggs (scrambled? poached?), and a few other options. It ends with a "Please deliver my breakfast at ______ A.M." (guest writes in their preferred delivery time) and Special instructions as far as allergies or preferences. 

I don't think it's too complicated, but it's probably something that the concierge would mention at check-in when discussing the amenities unique to The Artmore.
